Italian Roads Not Taken

A road not taken, in the Tuscan countryside of the Chianti region, on my previous visit to Italy.

I posted the other day about the trip I’m planning to Italy this summer. I finally have my itinerary nailed down. I’ll be there almost four weeks, and feel so grateful to be able to spend that much time and money.

But I also wish I had more time!

I’ve never been farther south than Rome and would love to see Naples and my maternal grandfather’s ancestral village outside of it. I’ve always wanted to explore Pompeii, the Amalfi Coast, Puglia, and Sicily. To the north, the Cinquaterra, Verona, and Lake Como are calling me. And even in the central part of Italy where I’ll be spending most of this trip, there are so many other regions and hill towns I wish I could fit in. Florence is my favorite city in the world, and I just don’t think I’ll have the time — though I have not entirely ruled out a day trip there from Assisi.

I will not be greedy. I will be happy about the amazing places I will visit on this adventure, the fascinating people I will meet, and the delicious food and wine! And then I’ll just have to plan another trip!
