NaNoWriMo Success, on My Own Terms

National Novel Writing Month ended at midnight. Technically, I did not write 50,000 words, which is the goal set by the annual November challenge. But I won anyway. My personal goal was to finish the draft of the book. And about a week and a half ago, I did! It’s about 90,000 words total (most of it not written this month).

I’ve done some editing since I wrote “the end,” though Thanksgiving got in the way, and I didn’t work on it every day. That always happens to me during November NaNoWriMo. I had planned to work out some kind of formula for figuring out how to translate editing work into word count. I never quite got around to it. It doesn’t matter.

I’ve been writing this book for way too long, and I am thrilled to have the draft finished. In my book, that is a success.
