I’ve been remiss about updating my progress on NaNoWriMo, or National Novel Writing Month. The goal of the challenge is to write 50,000 words of a novel in a month, beginning November 1. My personal goal was a bit different. I had a science-fiction novel already in progress that I planned to work on, expecting to finish the draft by the end of the month.
I finished it last night!!!
I’ve been working on this book for a very long time, so I was thrilled to reach the final page. I’m not giving up on NaNoWriMo, though. For the rest of the month, I plan to use my NaNo time to edit the manuscript. I haven’t decided yet how I’m going to count my editing toward the 50,000-word goal. If I massively rewrite a chapter, I may use the actual word count. Otherwise, I have an estimate for how many words per minute I’m writing on this book; I might keep track of my editing time and translate it into words.
