I have been writing in my backyard today with my writer’s group, which we call Kittens With Typewriters. The rest of the group has gone, but it’s so nice to see the sun after many cloudy days that I’m still on the patio. I filled the bird feeder (the Library 4 Birds) a few minutes ago, the the visible bird population has exploded.

So has the audible bird population. My birdsong app has just in the past few minutes identified these species:
- White-breasted nuthatch
- Northern cardinal
- Mourning dove
- House sparrow
- White-throated sparrow
- Downy woodpecker
- Red-bellied woodpecker
- American robin
- Blue jay
- Carolina Chickadee
There may be quieter birds around, as well, that the birdsong app wouldn’t notice.
It’s also been an active day for our chipmunk population. We’ve been watching them for hours. But now that the other Kittens have left and it’s just me, the little guys are venturing much closer, sometimes scurrying just inches from my feet.
