Throwback Thursday: Class Photo

Visiting my father and stepmother a few weeks ago, I was thrilled to be invited to take anything I wanted from several boxes of old photographs. I love this photo, which had “Bart’s class” scrawled on it in my grandmother’s handwriting. Sure enough, I recognized my dad in the first row, third from the left. Then I did a doubletake. I also recognized the little girl sitting beside him, fourth from the left. It was my mother! I knew their families had been friendly when they were little, but my mom’s family had moved away and lived in several other places throughout her childhood. I hadn’t realized that they not only went to elementary school together for at least a short while, but that they were actually in the same class!

My parents are sitting side by side in the first row in this elementary school class photo from Old Forge, Pennsylvania. That’s my father, third from the left, and my mother beside him, in the plaid skirt and white blouse.
