Here Comes the Son

My son is coming home tomorrow! His school has fall break for the next few days, so we’re driving down to campus Thursday to pick him and his roommate up. We’ll drive him home, stopping along the way at his roommate’s house to drop him off. On Sunday we’ll drive our son back to his roommate’s house, and the roommate’s parents will drive them back to the university. It’s the first time we haven’t had to drive both ways. I haven’t really minded driving him back and forth, but it’s nice to have another option.

To be honest, it’s not like I haven’t seen my son recently. Last Thursday I drove down to attend his orchestra concert, stayed at a local inn overnight, and spent a little time with him Friday before coming home.

Still it’s nice that he’ll have a few days here this weekend. We have nothing earth-shattering planned. He needs black dress pants — the ones he wore to the concert last week were clearly too small — so we’ll plan to go shopping on Saturday.

We also both need to vote. My husband too, if he wants to come with us. The election is just under two weeks away, but early voting started in September, and I’d like my son to cast his ballot while he’s here, rather than trusting the mail, which has been slow and erratic lately. I’d like to get my vote out of the way too, to free up my time for working at the polls on Election Day.
