Farewell to Cornwall in October

We had rented the stone cottage in Port Isaac that plays Doc Martin’s surgery in the Cornwall-based BBC series, but I just canceled the reservation, and all the other ones I’d made for the trip.

I was so looking forward to our trip to the United Kingdom in October. We’d planned to spend time in Cornwall and other points in the southwestern corner of England, as well as taking a day trip into Wales. We were planning to stay in the house that’s used as Doc Martin’s home and surgery in the BBC television series, and in a charming guest house in Penzance, and at a castle in Somerset. We had made plane reservations and rented a car.

Today I canceled it all. I hated to do it, but covid numbers are looking bad, both here and in the U.K. And the U.S. government is warning Americans against traveling there. All of my reservations were fully refundable, but some had deadlines for canceling, so we decided we’d better just do it.

I hope we can reschedule again for next year.
