Fixing a Hole

I posted recently about the mouse that we’ve spotted several times in the house in the past few days. We have baited three traps with peanut butter and set them around the house, but so far the mouse is showing no interest in them.

One theory is that Pepino and its occasional predecessors are getting into the house through a hole in the wall behind the stove. So this evening a friend who’s an expert handyman came over; Bob helped him pull out the stove and attach metal sheeting over the hole. We can’t be certain that the hole behind the stove was the only possible mouse door. We’ll have to give it a few days and hope that the mouse, if it’s still in the house, ventures into a trap in search of peanut butter. If that happens, we’ll release the mouse into the wild somewhere far away. And then we’ll wait to see if others get in, or if we’ve blocked their only access point.

Late at night, the mouse prefers to hang out in my son’s bedroom, so for two nights I’ve been up in the middle of the night, trying to help him locate and catch the little rodent. I sure hope we catch it soon. I really need some sleep.
